Church Billboard Ruled ‘Anti-Atheist,’ but Even Skeptics Disagree
Skeptics and atheists in South Africa remain divided over the Advertising Standards Authority’s ruling to remove a church billboard that was deemed “anti-atheist.” Earlier this month, the ASA ruled that Rivers Church of Johannesburg could not display a billboard at their Sandton campus over what a complainant claimed was content offensive to atheists. The church had erected a billboard of a man holding his fingers against the temples of his face. Christian Persecution rising in Islamic Nations
JAKARTA/ABUJA/BUDAPEST (Worthy News)– North Korea leads a list of nations where “Christians face the most severe persecution”, but “Muslim-majority” countries represent nine of the top 10 amid spreading Islamic extremism around the world, a major Christian watchdog said in comments obtained by Worthy News. The group, Open Doors, said its annual World Watch List (WWL) placed the Communist-run nation at the top spot for the “10th time” as North Korea built a “bizarre quasi-religion” around the country’s founder Kim Il-Sung. Anyone with “another god” is automatically persecuted, Open Doors said. Up to 400,000 Christians are believed to worship underground, while up to 70,000 Christians are held in “ghastly prison camps”, according to rights investigators. Sexting popular among Church Kids
Sexting went mainstream in June when the national news outlets reported New York Representative Anthony D. Weiner sent suggestive photographs of himself to women he met over the Internet. British Government Lifts Ban on Same Sex Marriage Ceremonies
A Christian advocacy group fears for the future of religious liberty in Britain as the Government lifts the ban on same-sex civil partnership ceremonies in churches. Equalities minister Lynne Featherstone was to confirm today that the ban will be lifted on December 5 in a move that has the full backing of Prime Minister David Cameron. She insisted that churches would have the freedom to decide if they want to offer same-sex services. Christian Concern said that even if the scheme was initially voluntary, churches that do not agree to offer the services are “likely to be put under huge pressure to change their policy by campaign groups”. The organisation said it was “almost certain” that homosexual campaigners would take legal action against churches that refuse.
